ClickBooks (clickbooks.us) publishes picture books for families and language learners, on the website and in the ClickBooks apps for TV: the “ClickBooks” channel on Roku and the ClickBooks app for Amazon Fire TV and Android TV. This policy explains what information we collect, what we don’t, and the choices you have.
ClickBooks is made to be read with and by children, and also by teenagers and adults who are learning a language. The books, the TV apps and the website do not ask a child for a name, email address, location or any other personal information. The email newsletter and the contact form are meant for parents, teachers, teenagers and other adults; they are not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are under 13, please ask a parent or guardian to subscribe or write to us for you. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, write to us at the address below and we will delete it.
The ClickBooks channel on Roku and the ClickBooks app for Amazon Fire TV and Android TV work the same way. The app keeps a few small preferences on your own device: the language pair you last chose and whether narration sound is on or off. These stay on your TV or streaming device and are not sent to us. To show you the books the app makes ordinary web requests to our server for the book list, page pictures and narration audio. Like any web server, ours records routine technical information about those requests (such as the time, the address requested and the network address it came from) so we can keep the service running and secure. We do not use this information to identify you or to build a profile of you. The apps have no sign-in, no purchases and no advertising, and they do not ask for or collect your name, email address, location, contacts, camera or microphone, and they do not include analytics, advertising or tracking software from anyone else. Roku, Amazon and Google, as the platforms your TV or streaming device runs on, may collect information about how you use your device and apps under their own privacy policies; we do not receive that information.
Spoken narration is produced by two text-to-speech services: Amazon Polly (Amazon Web Services) for most languages, and Google Cloud Text-to-Speech for Vietnamese and Greek. Our own server sends only the text of our books to these services, one sentence at a time, to create the audio. We then save the audio on our server and play it to you from there, so your TV, streaming device or browser does not contact Amazon or Google to hear the narration. No information about you, your device, what you read or your network address is sent to them. On the website, spoken words may also use the speech voices built into your own browser or device.
We share information only with service providers who help us operate ClickBooks (for example web hosting, email delivery, and text-to-speech from Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud), and only as needed for them to do that work. We may also disclose information if the law requires it.
You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time using the link in any email. To ask what we hold about you, or to have it deleted, email us at the address below.
